Tara Pod Tannin Powder

Price range: $5.95 through $278.40

Description

Dried ground Tara pods that are wild harvested in Peru from native Caesalpinia Spinosa bushes that grow in the Andes on dry, poor soils are the cheapest source of ‘clear’ tannins to make white leathers, or to tan fish and other skins without adding any tannin color. Tara tannins have a very light natural color and they are used to obtain very clear leathers with good light and heat fastness. Light fastness means that it won’t darken with age, so the clear tannin color stays clear, and natural dyes stay true. Tara gives fullness and softness to leathers with a smooth and firm grain. Tara tannins also confer to leathers a grain cracking resistance that is higher than any other vegetable tanning agent.

We get this Tara directly from Peru allowing us to offer it at a great price. Compare to Dye houses that sell it for $30 a pound or more.

Tara is a gallo-tannin, most typically used in softer leathers. For deer, goat or sheep hides you need 2-4 lbs. per hide depending on the size and thickness of the hide. Guaranteed to be at least 52% tannin. Basic instructions on its use are included.

A new tanning agent from Matt and Michelle, and is my new favorite.

Fish skins, cashmere case skinned goat hides, elk, deer, and a big dang python snake have all been tanned with this new Tara, HIGHLY RECOMMEND YALL.

been setting the grain (goat, elk, deer) at a higher bK reading with fantastic results (starting b/w 7-11 bK) with my elk/deer…super nice hides with a stronger grain for use for all my stone age projects and everyday use. i use my barktans heavily on a daily basis, and have noticed my “creations” take more use and wear with a heavier grain setting.

fish skins have a spectacular natural color (rock fish, black cod, and wild salmon) while also tanning in a respectable amount of time. i always leave my mammal and fish skins in longer than needed, since ive noticed after washing the tannins out, the skins are much softer and seemingly stronger after the organic dressings i use for softening while having all the collagen fibers coated prior with tannins.

very thankful for this more affordable “clear tanning” agent than oak gall, yet i love the oak gall also…actually everything yall have i love in some sort of fashion or another.

also, with the white natural color, these Tara pod hides will dye in an awesome fashion. my big Montana white tail had amazing shades and hues of light blue to a dark purple when i just willy nilly added a dense iron rust water to the hide. splatters and whatnot makes it look like a stone age version of an image from the James Webb telescope with a zillion galaxies in the background while aliens flying to and from them.

tara is a new addition to my everyday tanning agent….

thanks Matt and Michelle
