Description
Potassium hydroxide is the active ingredient in lye made from wood-ashes. If you are not going to make your own, this is the next best thing. It doesn’t get too slippery like Red Devil Lye does (the stuff you get in the store), and is more effective than hydrated lime. It’s easier to use and less messy than home-made wood ash lye, but then of course, it’s not as interesting or natural as making your own. One pound is enough for 8 deer hides (50 cents per hide).

Works good
Used this KOH yesterday on 3 hides. They are still soaking 🙂 But lots of hair in the barrel and I am expecting a simpler graining process. Good product at a fair price, shipping was very fast. Thanks for offering the product and your years of experience that you share!
Product came in with no problems.
worked exactly as advertised
This pearl ash is perfect for my tanning projects.
Third time to buck a hide. First time to use Pearl Ash.
Won't use anything else for graining white tail again. Excellent product!
Pearl ash review. First off, this is my second order. My first order got hung up for some reason, but a quick phone call to Matt more than resolved it to my satisfaction. This order was sent out the next day and I had it in hand in a scant few days. Matt has also been very responsive to my e-mails. The KOH is more user friendly than lime in my opinion, as the hides are done sooner, scrape easier, it's just all around better to use and much easier to find, as lime is seasonal in my area of the country. I should have ordered the 5lb. bag! I would order again based on customer service and quality of product. And buy the book/video if you haven't already.
I'm doing good with it thank you
Pearl ash. Haven't had a chance to use it yet
