This is our favorite pH meter for use in the tannery and we’ve tried a lot. This one reliably maintains accuracy (rarely need to calibrate), and crucially is truly waterproof. Hide tanning and dyeing are both highly governed by pH, and while you can certainly get by without measuring tools, they will give you much more consistent tanning results as well as help you learn a lot.

Verified ReviewTurns out veg tanning hides involves a little chemistry. The good news is that the concepts and measures are pretty staightforward. Both these items come with clear instructions on use and interpretation. Easier that hi school chemistry class. If you are serious about consistent results with your tanning, these gadgets, the ph meter and the barkometer, will help you get there.
Nice little device to easily check pH.
I thought this was just the pricier version of a ph meter I could get online. Oh well, I'd rather support Traditional Tanners. I was wrong, the unit I received is top of the line with cool extra stuff! As usual I got more than I paid for from braintan.com.
