Description
Chestnut extract comes from the wood of chestnut trees. It is a pyrogollol tannin, most typically used in moderately soft leathers, though it is found in a variety of recipes. It yields a color range between pale tan and brown. Use 1 lb. per deer sized hide for soft tanning, though 2 lbs. is more comfortable to work with. This particular extract is known as ‘sweetened chestnut’ as the pH has been raised for easier use. Basic instructions included.

I love the color it put on my deer hide. Super easy to use and the instructions are helpful for beginners and those unfamiliar with tannin extract powders like these.
Great product with good directions
Your products are great and I’ve used the mimosa and chestnut extract on deer hides as well as fur hides and they turn out amazing every time.
By far my favorite tannin from Matt.
Very beautiful and dark colors, the tannins smell lovely, and i wish i could drink this as a tea since it’s a heavenly flavor also.
Take longer than mimosa, yet not by very long. Maybe 3 weeks for a big thick elk, especially when i heat the tanning solution and add the hide back into….hot springs temp folks not boiling.
Very glorious choice of tannins
I've bought this stuff several times in the past. Each time it performs really well. Good stuff and well worth it.
Just so reliable
This was my first experience with chestnut extract and it made a beautiful chocolate colored leather. I tanned a deer hide and it was done after 7 days. The hide abraded well and softened easily. I will be doing more hides with this extract.
Really nice stuff. The chestnut extract is really easy to use. Just mix with water and you are good to go. The extract comes with clear instructions and tans a lovely brown.
As expected. Good stuff! Thank you.
