This pattern may be made in either the natural ‘open’ style with the legs and tail of the hide attached, or a more tailored style. The length may be varied to suit preference, Tribal influence or the size of available hides. An optional neck flap is also shown.
The Indian War Shirt was worn either plain or decorated; honors and coups were often seen on the shirt. Paint, feathers, ermine tails, beadwork, quillwork, shells, bells, coins, fur and/or trade cloth are some of the items used to decorate.
